CORE DRILL BITS
User Instructions

Safety

  1. Always wear proper eye protection when grinding or drilling.
  2. Gloves are recommended for hole drilling.
Equipment Required
  1. Hand held electric drill or drill press. Drill press is recommended for larger, over 3/4", drills.
  2. Water and/or coolant. In a squeeze bottle is ideal.
  3. Level work surface. A piece of cardboard placed between the work surface and glass works well.
Operating Speeds
  1. 800 rpm is desirable. Do not exceed 1200 rpm.
  2. When using a standard or variable speed hand drill, refer to the operating instructions to determine its rpm's.
Drilling Holes
  1. Securely fasten core drill into drilling equipment.
  2. Apply water / coolant to diamonds and glass surface.
  3. Hold the glass using your finger tips and locate them around the drilling area. Do not hold glass by its edges.
  4. Drill slowly at first until you become familiar with the proper speed and pressure required.
  5. When using a drill press, use light pressure. Allow the diamond to do the cutting. Too much pressure will fracture the glass.
  6. When using a hand drill, start drilling with the core drill at a 45 degree angle to the glass. As drilling proceeds, slowly adjust the drill until it is at a right angle to the glass. The weight of the hand frill itself should provide sufficient cutting pressure.
  7. Frequently remove core drill from glass while drilling and flush out the ground glass with fresh water/coolant. Also rinse glass from core drill itself.
Cleaning
  1. The inside diameter of the core drill must be kept clear of glass slugs. To remove slugs, push a nail or stout piece of wire through the hole provided in the side of the core drill or on larger drills, through the back of the core.
  2. If a glass slug becomes wedged inside the drill, secure the core drill in a vise and using a hand drill with a small twist drill, drill the glass slug out of the barrel. Make sure to wear proper eye protection!
