These sintered flat head cylinder diamond bits, along with their round head cylinder cousins and inverted cones, have become an essential part of the tool arsenal in my granite carving shop. Much of our work includes tiny fragile elements in granite. There have been other companies in the early nineties that provided a fine grained version of these bits. They ceased production more than 15 years ago leaving us to struggle with larger sintered bits and carbide chisels. In desperation, a random internet search led me to Inland Lapidary, the progenitor of this firm. These tools quickly filled the gap that had been left when my prior supplier departed. The bits remove material in an elegant and efficient manner. As with all sintered diamond bits, they need to be dressed frequently to degrade matrix and bring the next layer of diamonds to the working surface. Granite requires these bits be used with a modicum of applied pressure. Over time, this pressure causes the shanks to fail sending the bits spinning into oblivion. I had voice called Inland asking if the shanks could be upgraded to 1/8 inch thickness, but was told that was not in the stars. So we thank our lucky stars that we have what you make available and use them with an over abundance of TLC! The good news is that we keep a sharp lookout for those bits that choose to abruptly leave our micro grinders and find about half in the stone debris on the floor. All in all, a small inconvenience for what is an essential part of the studio equipment. Thanks.
